IMEX-GMIC Innovation in Sustainability Award

Awards 1

Working with our partners, GMIC, we launched a new IMEX-GMIC Green Award for 2017 - the all-encompassing Innovation in Sustainability Award, designed to celebrate inspiring event professionals driving sustainability forwards through innovation, collaboration and idea sharing. The Award recognises the meeting owner, planner, venue or other key suppliers, rather than individual achievements by a single supplier or event and is presented at the Gala Dinner at IMEX in Frankfurt.

Applications for the 2018 award will open later this year. Contact Milda Salciute for further information.

Take inspiration from the 2017 winner Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group

Blu Planet by Radisson Blu (Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group)

Radisson Blu's Blu Planet initiative is not an innovation on its own. It’s an initiative with a multi-purpose impact. Alongside reducing Radisson Blu hotels' water consumption it also focuses on community impact, locally and globally and at an economic and social level.

The initiative includes:

Blu Planet towel replacement programme in support of Just a Drop. For every 250 towels reused by its guests Radisson Blu donates £10 to Just a Drop the international water aid charity, to help provide enough safe drinking water for a child for a lifetime.

Soap for Hope in partnership with Sealed Air. Soap for Hope encourages Radisson Blu hotels to recycle their used hotel soap to create fresh bars for distribution in local communities with limited access to hygiene and sanitation. Soap for Hope creates local entrepreneurs, bringing jobs to the community and helps hotels reduce waste through recycling.

Water-light super breakfast. Implemented in 2016, water-light super breakfast offers water conscious breakfast options that have reduced the hotels' water and carbon footprint by more than 20%*. *research study by the Water Footprint Network.

Offering This Works amenities. This Works products incorporate highly concentrated essential oils and natural actives that are expertly blended with 100% natural fragrances with no sulphates. They are good for guests' skin and reduce the amount of chemicals that end up in the water supply.

Continued focus to have all hotels eco labelled. Radisson Blu hotels have been recognised as green hotels by a third party eco-label for their efforts to reduce energy and water consumption and minimise waste generation. Their aim is to have all their hotels eco-labelled.

Think Planet Water. Carlson Rezidor’s water-saving initiative saved 30% of consumption between 2007-2016. By the end of 2020, the target is to reduce litres per guest night by another 10%.
