We’ve been talking about legacy quite a lot in the IMEX office this year (it is our talking point after all!) Whether its personal or professional, here’s just some of the things the IMEX staff are hoping to leave behind as their legacies. You might find some inspiration for your own legacy!
David Broadus, Database Manager
My legacy is to provide support to young people before they begin rough sleeping and get involved in the many dangers associated with street homelessness. So far, my husband and I have taken in over 30 homeless teenagers, looking after them until a safe place for them to live can be found. We’re very proud of the work we’ve done!
Milda Salciute, Knowledge and Events Executive
I’m passionate about sustainability in my daily life as well as at IMEX. The phrase, ‘think global, act local’, really sums it up for me:
Global – sustainability is at the forefront of our minds at IMEX and being part of the IMEX Green Squad give me the opportunity to show that sustainability in the meetings industry is easier than you think!
Local – I regularly volunteer for Brighton Beach Cleans. I hope that every piece of rubbish I pick up may change someone else’s mind about their behaviour.
Emma Norman, Office Manager
My legacy is helping to save our beautiful planet and endangered species. I’ve recently joined the Marine Conservation Society in Brighton and help to clean the beaches of rubbish. I’ve also adopted a jaguar called Maya and contribute towards jaguar conservation. I hope to be more involved in conservation projects, do my bit to save the planet and protect endangered animals.
Roger Lehner, Organising Executive
Waste is one of the biggest challenges we face, especially plastic pollution. Even the most remote areas and depths of the ocean are now polluted. In my role at IMEX I get to work on and implement sustainability initiatives such as the Refill Movement, Legacy Wall and donation programme.
In my free time, I participate in beach cleans in the IMEX hometown of Brighton, and I’m part of the Team Refill Brighton and Hove, where we encourage cafes and businesses to become refill stations where everyone can get free tap water refills.
Carina Bauer, CEO
My legacy is going to be working with, and raising funds for, the Anne Frank Trust –a small UK-based charity that educates children and prison inmates about the dangers of prejudice and discrimination by using the words and story of Anne Frank.
I also want to help elevate the role of women in business and in the meetings and events industry through events like She Means Business. Just watch this space…
